Insider Story: Medical Care Providers & Parents, Lisa

Lisa and Tyler Harvey first got a Sleep Number bed about eight years ago. At the time, Lisa was pregnant, so she particularly appreciated the ability to adjust the firmness as her needs changed. Today, the couple has two sons, ages seven and five, and lead busy lives centered on time together as a family and supported by a good night’s sleep.

Lisa and Tyler love to golf, most often at their local city course in northern Minnesota, where they know everyone, so it’s easy to make it into a family outing. The boys tag along in the golf cart, and the family finds spaces where they can play. “We let them throw the ball in the middle of the fairway and let them hit for a while,” Lisa says, “and there are people in front of us or behind us, we can move around to a different spot so we’re not holding anyone up.”

The couple have a few golf destinations they’d love to check out, including Bandon Dunes in Oregon and Cape Kidnappers in New Zealand. But they’re also very happy with life in Virginia, a small-town northwest of Duluth.

Lisa and Tyler both work in a medical clinic and Tyler also works in surgery, but neither has to work on-call—they have predictable daytime hours. That’s partly why they moved to Virginia in the first place: they used to live just outside Saint Paul, and the big-city medical profession is built around working nights and weekends. Going to Virginia was a return to Tyler’s hometown and offered a family-focused atmosphere. Tyler has coached their oldest son’s hockey team, and the family also enjoys escaping to their cabin. “Every summer, we’re out there three days a week or more,” Lisa says. “We go swimming with the kids and ride bikes and hike and just make the most of the nice weather and trying to get outside together.”

It was family, too, that led Lisa and Tyler to Sleep Number, after the recommendation of Lisa’s brother, who has two Sleep Number beds. Lisa has been especially happy with the customer service—“we’ve been super happy with it.” Most of all, she says, “it’s nice to be able to adjust the bed as your live changes.”

Lisa’s Sleep Number is 35 and Tyler’s is 45.
